Fear

Funny thing, fear. Today, on SportsCenter, they had Stephen King doing a lead-in about fear. They went on to interview several current and former NFL football players talking about fear on the field. The "big dogs" talking about instilling fear in the other players and the underlying idea that part of the game is in the mind.

So...fear....so many connotations of it. For instance, is the fear you feel when being chased by zombies the same kind of fear you may feel of being alone for the rest of your life? Or is the fear of being pummeled by a 6'2" lineman coming at you wanting to rip your head off, the same as the fear of not hanging any limbs off the bed because something lurking underneath might get you?

And then there are the fears that if you are a parent, you know all too well. So many....
-the one that stops your heart when your child is the one not getting up after a play on the football field or is the one at the bottom of the pile when a cheer stunt goes bad.
-the one when your child gets sick and you have no idea how to help them or make them better.
-the one when your child is supposed to be somewhere and they haven't checked in or are late to arrive.
-the one in the store when you turn around and don't immediately see your toddler who was just at your side.

To me, these fears are completely and wholly different from the fear you feel when on a roller coaster or scary amusement ride. THAT fear is exhilarating! I have never played football but I would imagine that fear must be somewhat exhilarating as well. An excitement deep in the pit of your stomach!

What do you think? Agree or disagree? Other types?
