As you begin this final year of high school, I can't put into words the pride that swells in my chest as I think about the things you have done and continue to strive for and accomplish.
I think about your rocky start in this world...the innate fight in you to survive and thrive! I am continually amazed at your achievements and your understanding of the world around you. I used to wonder if you had been too sheltered in your early years but have come to realize that being my daughter, you have a pretty good grasp of how this world turns.
My desire for you is to hold on to your dreams and goals and fight hard to see them through. I believe with all my heart that you will. I know for a fact that you can, and WILL, do whatever you set your mind to. I don't think I show it but you thrill and amaze me when you say things like, "I think I'm going to minor in International Relations because that should work well with my Math major in making me very marketable." Wow, Emily, wow!
I am not sure you can understand the pride I feel until (or if) you have children of your own. I, very literally, want to stand on a rooftop with a bullhorn and start shouting your accomplishments! I will never take any credit for any of them! They are yours and yours alone. You have worked hard and it shows! As you begin your final year of high school, I have no doubt that it will be another year of fine accomplishments but also a year of much fun and tons of memories!
For anyone reading that doesn't know what my daughter is doing this year:
Student Council President
Varsity Cheerleader
Vice President of National Honor Society
International Thespian Society
Student Rights and Responsibilities
Drama Club
Chorus/Vocal Ensemble
Softball
Not to mention she starts the year ranked #10 in her class with a 4.2 GPA. She is taking 3 AP classes plus a class at St Pete College through dual enrollment and already has 9 college credit hours.
How do I not brag about this child? (Believe me, I brag about BOTH of my children and my youngest will have his time to shine too!)
I love you, Emily. I hope this year turns out to be everything you have wanted it to be and worked so hard towards. And although I have terrible anxiety about you leaving for college, I am also excited for you to begin that fabulous adventure!
All my love,
Mom
