Women

They can be your worst enemy or your lifeline! When in competition, women are cut-throat. They will throw you under a bus as soon as look at you! But when you need a friend, there is NOTHING like a girlfriend! Mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, FRIENDS! A woman without girlfriends is lonely. She may not even know she's lonely! No man can understand you the way your girlfriends do.

In some cases its the childbearing aspect and sometimes its just the way a female mind works. My mother and I have an awesome relationship. We can talk about anything and do. She supports me in more ways than I could name. She is my mentor and hero...as she should be. I hope when my daughter has passed the teen years, she has a similar view of me. She is a phenomenal woman and I am proud to be her mother!  My sister has become a wonderful friend! She and I share a similar sense of humor and have so much fun when together! And then there are the girlfriends.....

All shapes and sizes. All walks of life. All different personalities and political and religious views. And all truly wonderful! Talking about them makes me want to name them. I hope that as they read this (if they read this) they recognize themselves. I have friends that I haven't seen in ages, that don't live near me, that do live near me, that I saw yesterday, that I talk to regularly, that I haven't talked to in years, that I share a secret with, that I haven't "hung out" with ever, that have kids close in age to mine, that have no kids, and I love them all! They each, in their own ways, make me feel special and wonderful and I hope that in some way, at some time or another, I have done the same for them. When I think how supportive we are of each other, I wonder why we aren't that way in the workplace?

I've only been in one bridal party and never asked to be a Godparent. But I know if a girlfriend wants to get crazy and/or needs a good laugh or a drink, I'll be the one they call.

Toast to my girlfriends:
May our giggles be plentiful, may our hugs be sincere, may our troubles be lessened by each other, and may our joys be shared throughout our lifetimes!
